Flooding on the A65 in west Craven

(Updated 8:25am 23rd November 2017)

Police have asked motorists to avoid areas of Craven overnight, due to heavy flooding.

The A65 was closed north and south of Ingleton and between Settle and Long Preston with a number of minor roads also blocked in the area.

Several villages in the north of Craven were difficult to access.

Traffic is understood to be flowing again this morning.

A number of vehicles have been recovered from flood waters by North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and motorists are being asked not to drive through flood water to avoid becoming stranded.

These images, taken just after midnight, were posted to Twitter:

Fire crews from Bentham, Settle and Skipton have responded to numerous flooding incidents in the Ingleton and Bentham area, between the times of 9.00pm and midnight.

Crews assisted over thirty properties with pumping out water and diverting water flow.

Meanwhile, the Environment Agency has issued a number of Flood Alerts in North Yorkshire, where flooding is possible and residents should be prepared.

Near Skipton, an Alert is in place for the River Aire Upper Catchment.

There is a further Alert in place on the Lower River Ure, near Ripon.

More details can be found on the Environment Agency website.
