Craven asked to support Aireville Park play area

Aireville Park play area fundraising appeal

3:12pm 7th December 2017

Craven District Council and Friends of Aireville Park are inviting local businesses and members of the community to sponsor or make a donation towards the fabulous new play area for Aireville Park.

Within the first few weeks of launching the scheme, several local businesses and individuals have already come forward to support the project as a positive boost to Aireville Park and the town of Skipton.

A total of £3,500 has been raised so far, which gives businesses and residents the chance to sponsor a bench, donate a tree for a loved one, or fund a piece of play equipment.

Businesses can also choose to have a plaque or memorial tree charm and business logos on the sponsors’ board as a permanent recognition of the support.

The first business to jump on the wagon was local firm JN Bentley closely followed by Mewies Solicitors.

Helen Akroyd, director at Mewies Solicitors, said: “Mewies Solicitors are delighted to have had the opportunity to support the development of the new play area in Aireville Park.

“As a long-standing Skipton-based business many of our staff, families and friends as well as our valued clients have been and continue to be regular visitors of the town’s main park.

"The plans are fantastic news for anyone with children who lives in Skipton or is visiting our wonderful town.”

So far, over £130,000 has been raised and allocated for the project, which aims to raise a total of £200,000 by early 2018 in order to secure the necessary funds to deliver the project.

Councillor Linda Brockbank, Craven District Council’s lead member for Resilient Communities, said:  “I’m really pleased that this scheme has captured the interest of people and businesses.

"The park was created by Henry Alcock as part of Aireville Hall in 1830, and he went on to make many very generous financial donations that benefitted many Skiptonians, particularly young people, so this is a lovely way to keep up the tradition.

"I invite anyone or any business that cares about the park, young people’s play and Skipton to come forward and give generously towards this scheme.”

Full details are on the Council’s dedicated webpage for the park playground project.
