LISTEN: Knaresborough celebrates 50th Boxing Day Tug of War
It's a yearly Christmas tradition, and a competitive one!
The Half Moon Free House and The Mother Shipton Inn field two teams each, one with 8 men and one with 8 women, to pull a rope across the River Nidd at Low Bridge every Boxing Day.
Today is the return of the almighty Knaresborough Tug of War event.
It starts at 12 noon.
It's taken place every year without fail even when, due to the river being in flood, it's had to take place along Abbey Road itself instead!
This year's charities are Saint Michael's Hospice and Autism Angels.
Volunteers from both charities will be collecting donations from the crowd.
Both pubs are be open on the day and offering beers, mulled wine, food, mince pies and seasonal cheer!
Sam & Tony at The Mother Shipton Inn are taking part for the first time this year, after becoming landlords of the pub earlier in 2017:
