The Councillor responsible for North Yorkshire's roads has called the painting of white lines over potholes "faintly ridiculous".

A row broke out on social media after pictures emerged of the potholes on Old Barber Road in Harrogate.

One user on social media described the council's decision to paint over the potholes as "shocking".

In an exclusive interview with Stray FM, Councillor Don MacKenzie, who is responsible for Highways across North Yorkshire gives us his reaction to the potholes:

Councillor MacKenzie says they won't be painting white lines in potholes again:

When asked about the cost to the taxpayer, Councillor MacKenzie had this response:

A North Yorkshire County Council spokesman said: "The potholes have not reached a point where they are actionable. The white lines were painted on the road for safety reasons.''
