Great North Run legend dies

Great North Run legend Jim Purcell has passed away aged 96. 

Jim was known as ‘Owld Jarra Jim’ Purcell. 

According to the Great North Run's Facebook page, for many years, Jim was one of the event's most popular local runners, inspiring people of all ages to take on the challenge.

The page goes on to say he will be fondly remembered by everyone at Great Run and that thoughts are with his family and friends.
