(Updated 8:44am 14th February 2018)

Harrogate Borough Councillors are expected to approve an increase in Council tax tonight.

An rise of 2.18% would add around £5 onto the annual bill of a typical band D household in 2018/19.

The increase would equate to a figure currently around 0.98% below inflation.

At a previous meeting, Harrogate Borough Council's Leader Richard Cooper said it was a "reasonable response" to challenging times and "prudent" use of taxpayers' money and resources in combination with greater use of commercial opportunities.

A similar increase was introduced last year.

A Full Council meeting will take place at the Civic Centre on St Luke's Avenue, Harrogate, at 5:30pm tonight.
