Northern trains hit by strike action in dispute about driver-only trains.

Strike action will hit Northern train services today.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) trade union are taking action.

It's in a dispute over driver-only trains.

The train operator says it will reduce the number of services it runs, with most services operating between 7am and 7pm.

However, weather permitting, it says it will run more than 1,000 services - around 44% of usual services. 

Expect trains and any replacement buses to be extremely busy due to the reduced schedule. 

Northern is advising commuters to allow extra time to travel.

Sharon Keith, Regional Director at Northern, said:

“We have planned carefully to provide the best possible rail and rail replacement services for our customers.

“We will operate more rail services than ever before for a Saturday RMT strike and are doing everything we can to keep the north of England on the move.

“Anyone who is planning to travel using Northern services on Saturday should plan ahead carefully and allow extra time for any journeys. Our services will be busy and, in some cases, may not follow the usual stopping patterns. Some routes may also be served by other train operators, so it is vital our customers think ahead.”
