Weekend to stay cold, but the end is in sight

There are reports of black ice in parts of Yorkshire this morning, but there are signs the extreme conditions are finally starting to ease.

Temperatures have stayed stubbornly below freezing overnight, with a dusting of snow in parts of Harrogate, Craven and Wharfedale.

But from Sunday, many of us should see snow turn to rain as temperatures rise.

The latest forecast from the Met Office:

UPDATE: A yellow weather warning for ice is currently in place for the whole of Yorkshire from 11am on Saturday to 11am on Sunday.

Conditions on the roads are still variable, with snow and ice on many minor routes.

While it remains cold, we are being still being asked to keep an eye out for our neighbours, particularly those who are elderly or vulnerable.

Skipton Traffic Constable Andy Ingram told Stray FM: "Make contact. Just make sure they're ok and don't need anything and make sure they're warm enough. Just keep an eye on them."

Meanwhile, Yorkshire Water says it is receiving a lot of calls about frozen pipes.

There are concerns some could burst during the thaw.
