Celebration of Stephen Hawking at Skipton Town Hall

Published by The Stray FM News Team at 2:17pm 19th March 2018.

Skipton Town Hall is screening the film The Theory of Everything as a celebration of the life of Professor Stephen Hawking, in partnership with the local Motor Neurone Disease Association group.

The screening of the film, starring Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne, will take place on Thursday March 22nd at 6.30pm.

Professor Hawking died on March 14th at the age of 76, having been diagnosed at 21 with a type of motor neurone disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and given two years to live.

The British scientist was famed for his work with black holes and relativity, and wrote several popular science books including A Brief History of Time.

Danielle Daglan, Programming & Venue Development Manager for Craven District Council, said:

“We are holding this event as a celebration of Professor Stephen Hawking’s amazing life, what he achieved and how many people he had an impact on.

“We saw an opportunity in screening this film to work in partnership with our local Motor Neurone Disease Association group, a national charity focused on improving access to care, research and campaigning.

“We hope to help them raise awareness and much-needed funding to fight this disease.”
