A new sculpture will pay a lasting tribute to loved-ones in Harrogate.

Saint Michael’s Tree of Life is a bespoke three dimensional structure of oak, iroko and cedar, and each leaf adorning its branches represents the life of someone special.

The community is invited to dedicate a leaf and give a regular annual or monthly gift to help Saint Michael’s continue to provide care to local people living with terminal illness.

Leaves are available in gold, silver and bronze, and each will be inscribed with the names of loved ones.

The sculpture – created and generously donated by local construction specialists Haresign Bespoke – marks Saint Michael’s 30th anniversary, and will be unveiled at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show today, as the centrepiece of a Saint Michael’s Garden of Life show garden.

After the Spring Flower Show, the tree will take root in the tranquil setting of the hospice gardens.

Saint Michael’s Chief Executive Tony Collins said:

“The Tree of Life is a universal motif found in many ancient cultures, symbolising spiritual nourishment, strength and renewal.

"Our unique structure, created to mark the three decades of care, stands in tribute to the lives of friends and family who are no longer with us, each leaf symbolising those we continue to love.

“Adorned with copper, silver and gold leaves this is a tree like no other.  By dedicating a leaf on our tree, not only are you creating a lasting memory celebrating the life of to a loved one or a friend, you will also be helping to sustain and grow our hospice services.

“Every single leaf purchased will help us to offer care to our patients and their families. Your donation will not only help today but means you will be part of our future, enabling us to grow and spread a canopy of care over our district.

“We are extremely grateful to Haresign Bespoke for their generosity in donating the tree and we look forward to seeing specially dedicated leaves appearing on the branches.”

People are asked to make an annual gift of £500, £250 or £150 in order to have their gold, silver or bronze leaf dedicated to a loved one. There is also an option to spread the gift across a number of regular monthly donations of £50, £25 or £15.

Leaves remain on the tree for a year, as a lasting symbol of enduring love throughout the seasons, after which people may choose to renew their support or have their leaf returned to cherish at home.
