Yorkshire pudding-gate: New York Times Editor invited to Yorkshire

Yorkshire pudding

It may be a staple of Sunday Dinners but the celebrated Yorkshire pudding may be having a global identity crisis.

Social media was up in arms this week after the New York Times published a recipe for what looked uncannily like a sweet Yorkshire pudding.

Yet the article labelled the 'large fluffy pancake' a 'Dutch baby'.

The recipe, as featured in the New York Times:

The oven-baked batter recipe differs only from its Yorkshire cousin with the inclusion of a spoonful of sugar and a pinch of nutmeg.

But social media was having none of it:

Now, tourism bosses have invited the Editor of the New York Times to Yorkshire to sample the Yorkshire Pudding on home turf.

Welcome to Yorkshire says it would be delighted to show one of the Big Apple's most prestigious publications a bite of what Yorkshire has to offer.

Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire said:

"Nowhere is the Yorkshire Pudding celebrated more than its home county of Yorkshire!

"We are incredibly proud of our local dish served in all its forms but most famously as the absolute must on a Sunday roast!

"We would be delighted to welcome The New York Times over to Yorkshire to sample one of our favourite foods in all its glory in its stunning native, surroundings!"
