UPDATE: Pilot killed in helicopter crash near Aldborough

North Yorkshire police say a pilot has been killed in a helicopter crash near Aldborough.

Emergency services were called to the scene in a crop field near Aldborough, Boroughbridge at 1.23pm this afternoon.

Fire and ambulance crews also attended.

LISTEN: An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, described what he saw:

One man, believed to be the pilot of the private aircraft, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No further casualties have been reported.

The helicopter went down in a field not far behind the Ship Inn pub:

A police cordon is expected to be in place well into the evening.

Some police officers remain at the scene and the Civil Aviation Authority is also there, where it will carry out an investigation into the cause of the crash.

North Yorkshire Police says it is not yet in a position to name the deceased.

Residents in the area have described their shock on hearing about the crash.

Reports of a helicopter seen flying low in the area earlier this morning have now been linked with a separate incident.

Air crash investigators are now looking into the cause of the accident.
