Branch smashes car windscreen as Storm Hector hits Harrogate

Branch smashes car windscreen as Storm Hector hits Harrogate

Published by The Stray FM News Team at 1:12pm 14th June 2018. (Updated at 1:25pm 14th June 2018)

Strong winds have brought down trees and blocked roads as Storm Hector batters Yorkshire.

A couple in this car (pictured) escaped injury after a large branch fell on their car in Harrogate this lunchtime.

Christine and Mike Webber told Stray FM what happened:

"We were driving along Hookstone Chase and suddenly this branch went right through our windscreen and showered us with glass.

"Fortunately it shattered into very small pieces so we weren't really cut, thank goodness."

"We only live along the road so we'd hardly gone 300 yards!"

The couple had been hoping to drive to South Devon next week, but now say they'll probably need to find another car.

Earlier, during the morning rush-hour, the A658 was closed at Pool Bank due to a fallen tree.

Meanwhile, this photo was sent to us by Tony, who says parts of the roof have started coming off Harrogate Auction Centre:
