WATCH: The Stray FM takeover helping to transform a Harrogate School

Published by The Stray FM News Team at 7:25am 4th July 2018.

Stray FM is backing a campaign to help transform the experience of kids at a unique school in Harrogate School.

As part of a DIY S.O.S.-style takeover, all day we'll be hearing from staff, students, parents and supporters of Springwater School, in Starbeck, which cares for pupils with a wide range of learning difficulties and special educational needs.

The school is in a small building, with limited outside space and funds.

Some of the play areas and equipment have been “condemned”, with pupils unable to use part of it or even go outside for half the year, as it is not covered.

HOW TO DONATE

Stray FM and the children's charity Variety are working together on the £1 million Big Build initiative which aims to transform the school environment.

Phase one of the project is already complete, with the school opening its brand new sensory room.

But around £50,000 is still needed to complete stages 2 and 3.

That would see rebound therapy introduced to the school hall and the basic playground replaced with a new inclusive, interactive, sensory space.

Time is also tight, with the Big Build needing to take place between 20th July and end of August ready for the new school year starting this September.
