Inside the Luminarium

A giant interactive art installation has popped up on the Stray, which has been described as "enchanting" and "transformative".

Stray FM was invited to take a look inside:

The "Luminarium" is a huge inflatable walk-through sculpture and measures roughly half the size of a football pitch.

Inside is a labyrinth of colourful tunnels  - lit up by natural light which filters through the brightly coloured exterior of the structure.

Inside the Luminarium

The structure is family-friendly and accessible to all.

Designer, Alan Parkinson, said:

"About four weeks ago, a family took in their severely disabled son, who was 42 years old, who had never in his life smiled or cuddled his parents. It was an experience that really got to him and he was so happy. He'd never done that before."

Visitors are invited to wander through the sculpture, sit or lie down, and enjoy the ambience.

Once inside you can follow the labyrinth tunnels and cavernous domes to explore the installation, or simply find a cocooning pod, lie back and listen to the sounds of an immersive soundscape.

From the outside, the structure looks completely different:

The Luminarium will be on West Park Stray from Thursday until Sunday 15 July.
