A Harrogate charity is thanking people for their generosity over the Christmas period.

  • The Harrogate Lions Club raised £5,000 over the festive period through its Santa Sleigh appeal
  • The appeal is their biggest fundraiser of the year
  • The money raised this Christmas will be spent on local community projects throughout the year
  • The money raised last year has helped pay for defibrillators and first aid courses in schools

The Santa Sleigh visited a number of streets across Harrogate in the lead up to Christmas.

The Lions are now thanking people for their support, and explaining how the money will be spent.

Bernedette Reid, from The Harrogate Lions Club said:

"We really are quite astounded at how kind some people are. They will put £20 notes in.

"On a lot of occasions I've been quite overwhelmed at the kindness and co-operation of people with the projects that we've done.

"We have lots of appeals coming in all the time to us. So we will be spend money on those, but we of course don't know the appeals until they come in.

"But there's lots of different things we'll be needing to spend our money on."
