Skipton gas works delayed

Skipton gas works delayed

Major gas works in Skipton, which were meant to finish today, have been delayed.

The work started on 7th January and was due to take four weeks

But engineers have had to dig further to reach the mains and it's taking longer than they anticipated to repair the road surface.

It means a road closure, from outside Bizzie Lizzie’s fish & chips shop to the junction of Belmont Wharfe, is still in place.

A spokesperson for Northern Gas Networks said:

"Our project in Skipton is progressing well and the engineering phase of the works will finish as planned on 4th February.

"Due to the very deep location of the main, our teams have needed to dig down further to reach it.

"Deeper excavations require more time to reinstate the road surface, so this phase will take us a little longer to complete. We should have all the restatement completed by Monday, February 11.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause our customers in Skipton."

Anyone who smells gas or suspects carbon monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
