Bus shelter "bloom-bombed" ahead of Harrogate Spring Flower Show

Florists have brought a flash of floral inspiration to the streets to demonstrate the potential for petal power in transforming a town environment.

  • A bus stop in Harrogate has been "bloom-bombed" ahead of the Harrogate Spring Flower Show
  • It's on Victoria Avenue, opposite the library

Teams from Harewood-based Leafy Couture and Harrogate Flower Shows have ‘bloom-bombed’ Harrogate to highlight the benefits of using plants and flowers to bring colour to a grey urban scene and lift the spirits of passers-by.

Inspired by guerrilla gardening, which sees pockets of town and city wasteland planted up, bloom-bombing (or flower-flashing as it is also known) brings temporary floral decoration to the streets and will form part of the #kerbcouture theme for this year’s Harrogate Spring Flower Show (25 – 28 April 2019).

Show Director Nick Smith said:

“Just about anything, from disused dustbins to old drainpipes, can be used as a home for plants or flowers.

"It doesn’t need to be expensive or elaborate, but it can make a huge difference to our sense of well-being.”

The #kerbcouture street scene will be created by florists Leafy Couture, from Harewood, near Leeds, along with Ripon florists, Branching Out, and the British cut flower co-operative, Flowers from the Farm.

In addition to bloom-bombed shops, #kerbcouture includes The Blank Wall Project and Square Yards, a range of mini show gardens offering inspiration for green oases in small urban spaces, plus giant floral graffiti murals painted live during the show.
