No police investigation into Sir Gary Verity just yet

West Yorkshire Police will not launch an investigation into Sir Gary Verity just yet.

The former chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire resigned on health grounds last month, but concerns were also raised over "errors of judgment regarding his expenses".

The tourism body is launching two independent inquiries - one into look into concerns around expenses and the other into behaviour, since Sir Gary’s appointment in 2008.

West Yorkshire Police has confirmed it is not carrying out an investigation, unless any criminal activity is found.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the force said:

"West Yorkshire Police can confirm that they have met with representatives of Welcome to Yorkshire and are aware of the allegations made against its former Chief Executive.

"An independent investigation, including a forensic audit of the company’s accounts, is being commissioned by Welcome to Yorkshire.

"It has been agreed that the full findings of this independent review will be shared with West Yorkshire Police and if at any time evidence is identified of criminal offences this will be brought to the immediate attention of West Yorkshire Police."
