Harrogate florist scoops gold at Chelsea Flower Show

A Harrogate florist has scooped the prestigious 'RHS Chelsea Florist of the Year 2019' award.

  • Helen Pannitt, from Helen James Flowers, has won 'Florist of the Year' at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019
  • She beat 16 finalists to win the title
  • Helen was tasked with creating a Royal Floral Crown in honour of Queen Victoria's 200th birthday 

Helen Pannitt, proprietor of Helen James Flowers, was tasked with creating a Royal Floral Crown for a birthday celebration at this year's Chelsea Flower Show.

Last year, florists from around the country went through a round of competition heats, with the 16 highest scoring competitors invited to compete in the final, which took place at the weekend.

Helen said:

"They grouped us together and announced it officially.

"Everybody was cheering - it was very exciting and emotional.

"It's the one that everyone wants in the flower industry - everyone wants that Chelsea gold."

Helen is from Harrogate and has worked as a florist for 35 years, training in Cambridge after leaving school.

She opened Helen James Flowers on Station Parade ten years ago.
