Today is Harrogate' third 'Pride in Diversity' event, celebrating LGBTQ community and diversity in the town.

  • It's Harrogate's third 'Pride in Diversity' event today
  • It starts with a parade at 12pm from Montpellier Hill, down to Valley Gardens
  • For more information - see Harrogate's Pride in Diversity Facebook page

It starts at 12pm with a parade from the top of Montpellier Hill, down to Valley Gardens.

Chair of Pride in Diversity, Leonora Wassell, said:

"We have a lot more people involved this year - both running it and taking part.

"We have the open top bus with our 50 metre flag, we've got a jazz band leading, 30 fire fighters, other emergency services, and lots of community groups."

New for this year are after parties - at Stevie's, underneath the Everyman and the Den.

Leonora said the event is extremely important in bringing marginalised communities together.

She added:

"We're together with all the marginalised - whether that's people with disabilities disabled, LGBT, people of colour - we come together and celebrate humanity.

"Our tagline is dignity, respect and inclusion - and I think people are taking that on board now."
