The chief executive of Lightwater Valley has said 'he wishes the 7-year-old injured at the theme park last month well in his ongoing recovery'.

The message from Ian Cunningham made on the theme park's website comes after the school boy was released from hospital at the weekend.

The youngster was injured in May after falling from the Twister ride - which still remains closed.

The health and safety executive's investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

The official statement on the Lightwater Valley website:

"We heard great news at the weekend – that the child who fell from our Twister ride on Thursday 30 May is now out of hospital and recovering at home. All of us at Lightwater Valley wish him well in his ongoing recovery.

This has been extremely distressing for the family and for all those involved. I would like to say again how sorry I am personally for the impact this has had and we will never forget what happened.

"The safety of the park is our top priority and we are co-operating fully with the ongoing Health & Safety Executive investigation."
