North Yorkshire woman taking on epic swimming challenge for charity

Published by Minster FM News at 2:17pm 25th June 2019.

A North Yorkshire woman is taking on an epic swimming challenge this summer to raise money for St Michael's Hospice in Harrogate.

Jacqui Hargrave from Harrogate will swim the length of Lake Windermere 'two ways' on Monday 12th August, a challenge that will see her swim a total of 21 miles.

The swim is in aid of St. Michael's Hospice and is expected to take between 12-14 hours at a water temperature of around 17 degrees.

Already a keen swimmer, Jacqui admitted the distance will be a big step up from what she's used to:

"I've swam one way before, 10.5 miles, which I did for charity a couple of years ago, but this is a fresh challenge.

"I've not swam this distance before, my normal distance is 6 miles so this is a little bit out of my comfort zone!"

Jacqui is raising money for St Michael's Hospice in Harrogate, after her best friend Jane was cared for there in the last six weeks of her life before she sadly passed away in September last year:

"I don't think there's anything that they wouldn't have done for her. They allowed us to make really happy memories at a really desperate time.

"We did loads of things, we had a girls night in, we had a party, we did an ABBA singathon, they were incredible."
