'Fantastic - No Plastic' claim school children from Ripon

  • Children from schools around Ripon have been looking at plastic waste and the impact it has on the ocean.
  • As part of their 'Fantastic - No Plastic' campaign, they've built a turtle from plastic waste collected from home.
  • They've helped to reduce the use of single use plastics in local schools and communities.

Children from 10 primary schools around Ripon have been learning all about plastic and what impact it's having on the environment.

They've been working on their 'Fantastic - No Plastic' campaign which has had a big impact on reducing the use of single-use plastics in local schools and communities.

The youngsters have also collected waste from homes and yesterday built a turtle from plastic waste to illustrate what impact its having in the ocean.

By 2050, the oceans will contain more plastic than fish by weight, according to the Plastic Pollution Coalition.

The Ripon Rural cluster schools were at Fountains Abbey on Wednesday afternoon showcasing their work on their Fantastic No Plastic campaign.

Alongside reducing single-use plastic, the children have had zero tolerance on littering - encouraging people to put their rubbish in a bin.

They have also visited the Allerton Park Waste Recovery Centre.
