Plea to find Rex a home

‘Lovely, lively’ lurcher spends more than quarter of his life in RSPCA care

  • Four-year-old Rex has spent over a year in kennels and is desperate for a home.
  • RSPCA is now appealing for pet owners to come forward to help settle Rex.
  • He's currently being cared for staff at York Animal Home.

RSPCA staff are desperate to find a home for a lurcher who has spent more than a quarter of his life in kennels.

Four-year-old lurcher Rex is being cared for by staff at York Animal Home after moving from the RSPCA’s Leeds branch where he’d been for more than a year.

RSPCA branch support specialist Vikki Robinson said:

“Poor Rex has been waiting to find a new home for over a quarter of his whole life.

“Despite their best efforts, our colleagues in Leeds couldn’t find the right home for Rex so he came to us at the beginning of the year and now we’re hoping we can find him his forever home.”

Rex is a “lovely, friendly, lively lad” who loves long walks and is looking for an active home. He will benefit from further training and has to have a special diet to control his allergies.

Vikki added:

“He’s such a lovely boy and just seems to be unlucky in his search for a home.

“He’s quite a big boy and will need to go to a home where he’ll be the only pet. Ideally he’d be best in a home with older children.

“He’s very clever and knows some commands. And he’s happy to be left alone for short periods of time.

“He really is a gentle giant and loves nothing more than a fuss.”

For more information on Rex visit his online profile or contacting the animal home on reception@rspca-yorkhome.org.uk or 01904 654949.
