A Skipton man's homage to Yorkshire has been brought to life

  • Dan Horsman from Skipton produced his version of 'Old Town Road' during last week's Great Yorkshire Show.
  • It's in tribute to his home county and the Great Yorkshire Show.
  • Since the 'Yorkshire' version of the 2018 song was played on-air at different radio stations across the country, Dan has now released a music video.
  • Filmed and edited by TwentyTwenty Films and Yorkshire Edit, the video also features Skipton Musical Theatre Company.
  • All monies raised will go to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

A proud Yorkshireman from Skipton is continuing to fly the flag for Yorkshire.

Dan Horsman only took to Twitter last week (9 July), to share his 'Yorkshire' edition of 'Old Town Road'.

Originally sang by American rapper Lil Nas X, 'Old Town Road' is a country rap which features Billy Ray Cyrus.

Inspired by the song, which was only released last year (2018), Dan created his own version - 'Yorkshire Song' - which is a tribute to his home county and the Great Yorkshire Show.

With reference to Yorkshire tea, Yorkshire pie and Yorkshire ale, Dan's edition has since gone viral, thanks to shares on Twitter and Facebook, and numerous postings in local social media groups.

It was only filmed on a phone in Dan's van but it caught the attention of Yorkshire Edit who approached him about producing a music video.

Since then, Dan has worked with Yorkshire Edit, Skipton Musical Theatre Company and TwentyTwenty Films to bring his Yorkshire song to life.

Dan said:

"After a brief but entertaining appearance on Radio 1, performing a rap about a cup of tea, I made a full version of my ‘Yorkshire Song’, which was again picked up by radio!

"Everyone was constantly telling me how infectious it was and that they couldn’t get it out of their heads, so I wanted to do something more, and whilst I was at it, I wanted to do something good!

"That’s why I’ve teamed up with Skipton Musical Theatre Company, Yorkshire Edit, and TwentyTwenty Films to support a charity close to every Yorkshireman (and woman)’s heart, The Yorkshire Air Ambulance!!

"I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it, and I hope you will donate as much, or as little, as you can to support this very worthy cause!"

All those involved have given their time for free - with all monies raised going to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Olivia Mulligan, North Yorkshire Community Fundraiser for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, said:

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Dan Horsman for donating the proceeds from his new song, the UK remix of Old Town Road, to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. The money raised will help tremendously towards the vital funding of our service.

"The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity and it costs £12,000 a day to keep both of Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s maintained and in the air. We are grateful for all the support we receive and we would like to wish Dan best of luck with the song launch.”
