Every day is Yorkshire day!

  • Hundreds of white roses have been given out in London to celebrate Yorkshire Day.
  • White rose is an iconic symbol of Yorkshire.
  • The flowers were handed to people travelling through London Kings Cross station.
  • The move was to encourage people to visit Yorkshire.

Hundreds of white roses have been given out in London to celebrate Yorkshire Day and encourage people to pay a visit to ‘God’s Own County’.

365 of the flowers - an iconic symbol of Yorkshire - were gifted to people travelling through London Kings Cross station by the Welcome to Yorkshire team to mark the county’s special day - and to highlight the fact that every day of the year is the perfect time to pay a visit to Yorkshire.

Some of the county’s finest produce was also on display in the capital at a pop-up Yorkshire market.

Travellers were treated to delicious food and drink samples from proud Yorkshire companies including Slingsby, Weetons, Black Sheep Brewery and Tipple Tails.

Yorkshire Day - Welcome to Yorkshire

Welcome to Yorkshire’s Commercial Director Peter Dodd said:

“We shout loud and proud about Yorkshire all year long, but August 1st is the perfect time to celebrate the county, and what better way to share the Yorkshire love than with our iconic white rose. We’ve also been showcasing some of Yorkshire’s finest food and drink, which the county is now world renowned for.

“Whatever you travel for, whether it be scenery, shopping, heritage, attractions or activities, you’ll find it in Yorkshire along with the famous Yorkshire welcome. With stunning coastline, cool cities, first class arts and culture, vibrant market towns and so much more to offer, we invite everyone to come and explore it.”

Yorkshire Day has been celebrated for more than 40 years after being launched by the Yorkshire Ridings Society in 1975.
