Free workshops to help businesses get ready for UCIs

Free workshops to help businesses get ready for UCIs

Published by Lisa Darvill at 9:24am 19th August 2019.

Businesses are being urged to attend free workshops to make sure they're ready for the upcoming UCI Road World Cycling Championships.

  • Opening Minds - a not-for-profit which promotes equality for people with disabilities - was awarded a community grant of £2,500 ahead of the UCIs
  • It's using the money to run free courses for businesses and services about accessibility and aims to change attitudes towards people living with disabilities
  • The workshops are running in Harrogate tomorrow and in Ripon on Wednesday
  • There's also a workshop in Knaresborough on 3rd September

Opening Minds was among 28 organisations to receive a slice of £40,000 of funding for community projects from Harrogate Borough Council.

The not-for-profit social enterprise is using the £2,500 it has been awarded to run free awareness sessions for businesses about accessibility.

It's urging businesses to come to the sessions, which are being held this week.

Director of Opening Minds, Jo Martin, said:

"The free courses are for businesses and services.

"People living with disability will speak about some of the challenges they face around being included and accessibility issues living in the Harrogate area.

"From this information, businesses can learn something about what they can do to increase their accessibility and welcome to people living with physical disabilities and invisible disabilities."

"It's about making sure that everyone can be made welcome in Harrogate."

Two workshops are taking place this week:

Another workshop will be held next month:
