UCI: Changes to bus services

UCI: Changes to bus services

Published by Tom Harland at 8:24am 18th September 2019.

With the UCI Road World Championships coming to Yorkshire there will be some impact on usual bus services.

There will be some changes to routes, but local operators are hoping to run enhanced services to manage additional demand.

Town centre road closures mean that there will be no buses serving Victoria Avenue, War Memorial or Montpellier Hill from 18th September - 1st October.

These are the specific changes we know about:

Harrogate Bus Company

For the latest news from Harrogate Bus Company, check out their dedicated website: yorkshire2019travel.com

The 36:

Leeds to Harrogate

Buses are every 10 minutes, using the normal timetable between Harrogate and Leeds and adding extra buses at busy times during the event.

Between 21 and 29 September, buses between 9am and 8pm will be affected by the closure of Prince of Wales Roundabout, so will be unable to get to stops on Leeds Road between Oatlands Corner and the Prince of Wales Roundabout. After picking up at the bus station, buses will run non-stop between Library Gardens and Oatlands, M&S.

Harrogate to Ripon

The closure of West Park means buses will miss stops between Victoria Avenue and the Royal Hall between 18 and 30 September. At some times they will also miss stops between the Royal Hall and the Little Wonder Roundabout.

On 23 and 24 September Ripon Bus Station will be closed, so the final stop in Ripon will be a temporary stop on Somerset Row, just next to Low Skellgate.

Early morning and evening buses will run to normal times every day so people can travel to and from work at each end of the day, and to watch the event.

Daytime buses will also run as normal every 20 minutes through the day on six of the nine event days. On the other three days – 21, 24, 25 Sep – they will not be able to run between Harrogate and Ripon due to road closures for a period in the middle of the day.

The 1:
Will run as normal except on 21st September, when between 10am and 5pm it will run Harrogate to Starbeck every 7 mins, and on to Knaresborough via a different route every 30 mins. During this time it will not be able to serve stops between The Avenue in Starbeck and Knaresborough Bus Station or St James Retail Park.
The 1B and 1C services will link with the town centre via special shuttle buses, while the 1D will not run on 21st September.

The 7:
Runs as normal except on 21st September, when, between 10am and 5pm, it'll run as two separate services. One from Harrogate to the Kestrel Roundabout and the other between Leeds and Wetherby.

Download a timetable for 21 September here.

2A/2B:
Runs as normal.

3:
Will run as normal except during race road closure times (2-3 hours) on 21st and 24-30th Sept when services will be unable to run.

Services won't be able to serve stops between Victoria Avenue and the Royal Hall between 18 and 30 September. At some times they will miss stops between the Royal Hall and the Little Wonder Roundabout.

6:

On 18, 19, 20 and 30 September it won’t be able to get to stops on Victoria Avenue or Montpellier Hill but the times for all other stops will be the same.
The 6 will be running every hour between 21 and 29 September, on a new route to avoid the daily closure of Otley Road. This means they won’t be able to reach stops between Harrogate Bus Station and Beckwith Road.

The X6 peak time buses to Beckwith Knowle won’t be able to reach the business park, so customers who usually use this bus should use the 6 as far as Beckwith Road – just a few minutes’ walk away from usual stops. The best stop is shown on the link to the 6 timetable above.

8:
Will not run on Saturday 21st September or Friday 27th September. All other days will run as normal.

21:
Will run as normal except there will be no service on Saturday 21st September.

22:
Running as normal every day except 21 September when it won’t be able to get to Knaresborough or villages between Knaresborough and Ripon.
On 23 and 24 September Ripon Bus Station is closed so will be using a temporary stop on Somerset Row instead.

24:
No service on Saturday 21st September, all other days will run as normal as much as possible. The service won’t be able to get to stops between Victoria Avenue and the Royal Hall between 18 and 30 September. At some times it will also miss stops between the Royal Hall and the Little Wonder Roundabout.

Between 24 and 28 September some buses on the 24 won’t be able to run, and this varies day by day.

Download timetables for these days here.

School buses will be protected and if they cannot return directly from St John Fisher & St Aidan's schools, students will be able to walk to the Town Centre. The Harrogate Bus Company will communicate this directly.
