Harrogate now has its very own version of Monopoly - but which landmarks made the cut?

  • Finally, Harrogate has its own edition of the Fast-Dealing Property Trading Game.
  • Stray FM was the first space revealed, followed closely by worthy charities
  • A number of the spaces have been chosen by the public
  • Other famous landmarks from the town are included

At last, there's a Harrogate edition of the famous board game Monopoly and it hits the shops at 11am today (Thursday 17th October).

This Christmas you'll be able to treat your family to a fight over who owns Betty's and if it's OK to build a hotel on the Stray.

Company Winning Moves, has worked all year to create the special edition, with hotels, theatres and even events like the Great Yorkshire Show and Harrogate Christmas Market included.

The stations are the area's four local rail stations, Harrogate, Hornbeam Park, Starbeck and Knaresborough, whilst Stray FM features as one of the Chance spaces.

And to celebrate, across the town, there will be a Day of Harrogate MONOPOLY Celebrations.

From a red carpet being rolled out.. to Mr Monopoly inviting ‘selfies’ in the town .. to a dramatic brass band belting out music

“All will be revealed on Thursday – the game will feature the very great and the very good of Harrogate,”

says Benjamin Thompson from MONOPOLY: Harrogate Edition makers Winning Moves. Mr Thompson, a Custom Games Manager at Winning Moves, will be at the launch at The Majestic Hotel – soon to become The DoubleTree By Hilton Harrogate Hotel and Spa – which is where the official ‘Big Reveal’ will take place.

Mr Monopoly, attending from London, will be there too and later touring the town centre including shops where the game is for sale, warmly welcoming ‘selfies’ from the public.

Winning Moves are the makers of this unique version under official license from MONOPOLY owners Hasbro.

The game will see more than 30 Harrogate landmarks ‘Pass GO’ and feature in the game, including four local charities. One of those charities is The Tewit Youth Band who will get to be stars at the launch. A 36-piece brass band, including members aged from 12 to 18, will belt out music at The Majestic.

The band was formed in 1978 and its’ President Colin Gibbs says: “Members of Tewit Youth Band are delighted to have been invited to perform at the MONOPOLY launch and look forward to performing at many of the Harrogate landmarks featuring on the new board in the future.”

We've unboxed a copy of the game so you can see the whole board and its contents for yourself:
