Harrogate Town MD releases statement on power issues at the CNG Stadium

  • There was a power cut at the CNG Stadium ahead of the Harrogate v Portsmouth FA Cup on Monday (11, November).
  • It resulted in thousands of fans waiting outside the ground, desperate for power to be restored.
  • The power outage meant the game was delayed by nearly an hour.
  • Managing Director Garry Plant has apologised to fans for the inconvenience caused.

Harrogate Town's managing director has released a statement following the power cut at the CNG Stadium.

There was a major power outage at the ground ahead of Harrogate's FA Cup game against Portsmouth.

Club staff worked hard to reassure fans with Northern Power on site to restore the power, ensuring the game went ahead as planned.

The match finally kicked off an hour later than originally planned.

Garry Plant, the managing director, wanted to address a few questions the club have been asked regarding the power issues at the match.

In a statement on the club's website, Garry said:

"The floodlights were tested over the weekend in preparation for the big match and we had an electrician on standby at the match from 6pm.
As you are aware we experienced an issue with the power prior to kick off which we had to deal with as quickly as we possibly could which involved getting Northern Power on site to investigate the main supply box which we are not authorised or permitted to access. They dealt with the situation and we got the game on.
Supporters not already in the ground had to be kept outside the stadium for safety reasons and under advice from the ground safety officer and the Police.
As soon as the power issue was sorted everyone was moved in to the ground and we got over 3,000 people in the stadium in 20 minutes.
We would like to apologies for the inconvenience caused and thank you all for your patience and understanding on a cold, wet evening.
