Is Knaresborough to get an Aldi?

  • Aldi is looking to develop a new food store in Knaresborough.
  • Leaflets about the plans have been posted through people's letterboxes.
  • The discount food retailer wants to create a store at Manse Farm.
  • A public exhibition about the plans takes place next week.

Proposals for a new Aldi food store have been revealed.

The discount food retailer wants to build a new store on land at Manse Farm - just off York Road, opposite Nidderdale Lodge Park.

The proposed development of the store is part of the wider, mixed-use plans for Manse Farm, which was granted planning permission in 2014 and is currently under construction.

Leaflets about the plans have been sent to residents in Knaresborough.

In it, the retailer states:

"Aldi's nearest store is located over six miles away on Oak Beck Road in Harrogate, which is very popular and performing well.

The introduction of a new store in Knaresborough would not only provide residents with more convenient access to an Aldi store, but also help residents to save time and money instead of travelling to stores further afield."

The retailer claims the new store would create between 30 and 50 full and part-time local jobs.

Plans for the new Aldi store are at an early stage and before the retailer submits a planning application, Aldi wants to know what local residents think.

The retailer added:

"The proposals are at an early stager and Aldi would like to hear your views about our ambitions for a new store in Knaresborough, which could be open in 2021."

Aldi is inviting people to take part in a public exhibition to find out more information about the proposal:

  • When: Wednesday, 27 November
  • Time: Between 3pm and 7pm
  • Where: Chain Lane Community Centre, 60 Chain Lane, Knaresborough.
