A trio of women from Boroughbridge and Harrogate will be hosting a special Christmas Day for those who struggle during this time of year.

Laura Hutton, Nadine Blakey and Helen Frankish are aiming to feed 20 diners at the Stepping Stones nursery in Boroughbridge on Christmas Day.

The women and their families want to help those who face being hungry, homeless or lonely during Christmas.

Nadine says:

"Loneliness is the worst thing going, Most days you can cope but Christmas Day is the worst time to be alone. No-one should be on their own."

After selling poppies on Remembrance Day, the women discussed what they could do to help those in need.

Following on from discussions, they put a post on Facebook asking people who were lonely during the festive period if they'd be interested in a community meal - and it went from there.

For those who will be attending, there will be a three course meal, drinks, party games, entertainment and even a takeaway tea on offer.

It's been made possible by donations from local businesses, schools, members of the public and friends and family.

The women have been bowled over with the generosity of local businesses.

Minskip Farm Shop will be donating all the vegetables.

The Grantham Arms public house, Morrisons, Boroughbridge Lions and the Golden Bite, fish and chip shop in Boroughbridge among others have all pledged their help and support.

In addition, there is transport available to those who want to attend but may struggle to get to Stepping Stone nursery.

The sons of Nadine will provide a chauffeur service to anyone living locally. They will pick diners up from their homes and take them to the event.

Laura has been telling Stray FM, they just wanted to give something back:

"I think people can get embarrassed about being on their own at Christmas. For some, they just don't want to talk about it because people are wrapped up in this 'yeah, it's Christmas, let's go and see our families' etc.

"It's an unnecessary pressure for most of us.

"I do think there is stigma with Christmas and it is hard on people and we recognise that.

"We're very lucky and we just wanted to give back to those who face being hungry, homeless or lonely during Christmas."

For any surplus donations, food and gifts, the women will be donating them to local projects and charities.

But there are limited spaces and people are being urged to apply now to ensure they get a seat at the Christmas table.
