Flying Scotsman to visit Hellifield and Settle

The Flying Scotsman will pass through Hellifield and Settle on two railtours later this month.  

  • Two trains hauled by the Flying Scotsman locomotive will visit Hellifield and Settle later this month.  
  • The 'Christmas Dalesman' will run between Manchester and Carlisle on 18th and 21st December. 

The steam locomotive will head up the 'Christmas Dalesman' between Manchester Victoria and Carlisle on Wednesday 18th and Saturday 21st December.  

The train will start at around 7.30am and head to Bolton and Blackburn before joining the Settle - Carlisle route. 

It will pass through Hellifield and Settle later in the morning.

Flying Scotsman

The steam locomotive was built in Doncaster and first entered service in 1923 on the East Coast route between London and Edinburgh.  On a test run in 1934, it became the first locomotive to reach 100mph in the UK.

The loco was in Yorkshire in June, when it visited York.  Network Rail and British Transport Police reminded people to stay off the tracks, after fans were caught on video trespassing on the main line during one of its previous trips.
