Parts of the Craven district are waking up to a blanket of snow this morning.

  • The wintry weather is making driving conditions in some areas difficult.
  • Worst hit parts include Settle, Hellifield and the A59 between Blubberhouses and Kexgill.
  • Police are urging drivers to take extra care on the roads.

Snow has been falling across many parts of Harrogate, Craven and Wharfedale overnight on Saturday and into Sunday morning.

It looks like the Craven district has been bearing the brunt of it, with Settle and Hellifield among the towns waking up to a blanket of snow.

Driving conditions have been made difficult, particularly on the A65 as well as the A59 between Blubberhouses and Kexgill, which had to be closed for a short time in the early hours but has now re-opened.

Meanwhile in Pateley Bridge, compacted snow has made the B6265 up Red Brae Bank impassable.

Police are warning drivers of the risk of ice on some roads and are urging motorists venturing out to take extra care.

Forecasts suggest the worst of the wintry weather is over, with most areas turning drier and brighter through the day.
