A sailing club in the Dales is up for a national award.

  • The Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club is in the running for a national award.
  • They are competing with nine other clubs across the county to be crowned 'Club of the Year'.
  • The club is based at Grimwith Reservoir between Pateley Bridge and Grassington.

The Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club is based at Grimwith Reservoir.

The club is in the running for the national 'Club of the Year' award by the Royal Yachting Association and the Yachts and Yachting magazine - having already won the North East regional final.

The closing date is the 27th January - with the club going up against nine other clubs from around the country, including much larger club down South.

The club provides dinghy sailing on the reservoir and runs training and racing events.  They also offer windsurfing and Powerboat handling.

Erica Caswell, from the club, says it means a lot to them:

"We're very proud of all our achievements and all the developments that we've done.  The club is run completely voluntarily and we've put a lot of people through training through the last year and developed a lot of new things.   We'll be competing against some much bigger clubs down South.

"We do dinghy sailing - not on a big yacht but a smaller boat.  People think it's sedate and they'll be sitting there with a G&T! But actually it's really strenuous and adventurous, heading out onto the reservoir and learning a new skill.  It's a really good family sport."
