  • The money was raised through the borough council’s bereavement services.
  • The charity were chosen for the last six-months by the Council.

Macmillan Cancer Support have thanked the Borough Council for the donation, that will help the group.

The support organisation are currently investing almost £275,000 in the Harrogate district to establish two new nursing posts and expand the current five-day palliative care service to a seven-day service.

Councillor Andy Paraskos, Harrogate Borough Council’s cabinet member for environment, waste reduction and recycling, said:

"I’d like to thank those families who, during a difficult time, have consented to us recycling metals recovered.

By raising this money, everyone involved has done their bit to help local charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support."

Michaela Ryder, lead fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said:

"We would like to thank Harrogate Borough Council for this very generous donation, which will be used to support our palliative care team throughout the Harrogate district.

"Macmillan Cancer Support is funded almost entirely by donations, and simply cannot support the growing number of people who need us without the support of organisations like the borough council.

"£8,000 is enough to fund one of our new specialist palliative care nurses, Clare Hunter, for two-months. This will enable her to help people in the Harrogate district living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support."
