The MP for Otley, Alex Sobel, has put himself into isolation after attending a summit where someone later tested positive for the coronovirus.

  • Leeds North West Labour MP Alex Sobel has put himself into isolation.
  • It's after he attended a summit in London where someone later tested positive for the covid-19 strain.
  • Mr Sobel insists he's feeling fine.

Mr Sobel, along with another MP Lilian Greenwood, attended the UK Bus Summit at the QE11 Centre in Westminster on February 6th

Someone who attended later tested positive for the covid-19 strain.

Both MPs say they are feeling fine, and are just being careful.

Mr Sobel said:

"Whilst I have been informed that I am at very low risk, I have called 111 to be formally assessed.

"As a precaution, we have cancelled all engagements until next Thursday when the 14-day potential incubation period will end."

Describing what self-isolating involved, Mr Sobel said:

"I'm not in contact with anyone new.

"I'm in the end meeting room of the office away from everybody else... and I'll be going home and I'll be isolating myself in my home office.

"I won't be intending to leave the house until next Wednesday.

"I've got a pile of things to do like most MPs have got to do -  things to read, things to write.

"I'm sure I'll be fine, I might just get a little bit stir-crazy, but it's obviously much more important to isolate myself in case I am a risk."

He has isolated himself after taking advice from Public Health England.
