Snowfall on Monday caused traffic chaos, school closures and led to further flooding.

What to expect

  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
  • Some roads and railways may be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services

The wintry showers will fall as a mixture of rain, hail and snow at times, the snow mostly over higher ground.

Some places are likely to see 1-3 cm of snow, mainly above 200 m, with 4-8 cm possible over the higher ground in northwest England, Wales and west Scotland.
