A new group to bring people together and tackle isolation and loneliness in Harrogate starts tomorrow.

  • The Friendship & Social Group will be held at Bilton Community Centre.
  • The group will meet on the last Friday of each month and will help tackle isolation and loneliness.
  • There will be events, presentation, mindfulness and exercise classes.

The Friendship & Social Group will run in Bilton Community Centre on the last Friday of each month.  Attendance is free and open to anyone who would like to enjoy a coffee, cake and a chat.

The meeting will also feature regular events and presentations, including a visit from a therapy dog, a mindfulness session and a seated exercise class.

A special VE Day celebration is also planned for later in the year.

The group is being run by home care company Continued Care.  They offer support to people in their own homes, including help with cleaning, shopping, medication and personal care.  They also offer full 24-hour care if needed.

Iona Novak, Acting Care Service Manager at Continued Care, said:

“As a social care provider based in Harrogate for over 25 years, we have seen first-hand the value that being part of the community brings to the people we work with.

"It’s a vital part of combating loneliness and isolation and improving wellbeing. That’s because it not only brings people together but it also offers them opportunities to get involved in activities and access useful services.

“We already work extensively with local charities and organisations to offer services and social opportunities for our clients. This community-focused approach to improving people’s wellbeing and combating loneliness is so important that we wanted to offer it for free to everyone.”

The sessions run from 2pm to 4pm and are wheelchair accessible. If you would like to attend but would have difficulty getting to Bilton Community Centre, you can phone 01423 871 003.
