St Michael's Hospice in Harrogate's postponing its annual Twilight Walk over coronavirus fears.

Whilst there are no restrictions within the UK stating that events should be cancelled, organisers state its a precautionary measure.

It adds that the postponement is the 'responsible thing to do for its supporters, volunteers, staff and partners'.

It was due to take place tomorrow (Saturday, 7 March).

A new date will be confirmed as soon as possible.

A statement on the website reads:

"After careful consideration, as a precautionary measure, we are postponing our Twilight Walk which was due to take place this Saturday March 7.

"As things stand there are no restrictions within the UK set by the government or Public Health England that require the event to be postponed or cancelled. There are also no local factors or safety risks that we know of that are contributing to our decision.

"However, we believe that, if we can, it is the responsible thing to do for supporters, volunteers, staff and partners.

"We also believe it is the responsible thing to do to support our community to stay safe and help our emergency services and NHS colleagues.

"We know that people are looking forward to the event so that is why we are making the decision now so we can minimise any difficulties or inconvenience caused.

"We hope you understand the reasoning behind this postponement.

"We will confirm a new date as soon as possible. We hope people will be able to make it but, should you not be able to, we will offer a full refund."
