A fundraising campaign has resulted in a charity in Ripon buying a new minibus.

  • The campaign raised £35,000 to buy the purpose-built vehicle.
  • The new bus, called James, can transport 12 people and two wheelchairs.
  • Ripon Community Link provides day support for people in the city with learning difficulties.

A Ripon charity has celebrated raising enough money to buy a new minibus.

It follows a successful appeal, raising £35,000 to pay for the custom-built vehicle, which can transport 12 people plus two wheelchairs.

The bus, called James, will be used to transport members, volunteers and staff to events and activities around the district.

The charity's previous vehicle, Kermit, came to the end of the road after years of service last Spring, and the charity subsequently launched their appeal.

Ripon Community Link chief executive Victoria Ashley said:

“Our ability to provide supported transport is key to the provision of our services.

"It allows members to travel, broadening the range of opportunities and experiences open to them, and strengthening our community integration.

"James really is going to make a big difference to our members.”
