  • Two men from Harrogate are driving from Harrogate to Benidorm in an old car to raise money for charity.
  • They'll be doing the entire journey in fancy dress.
  • It's to raise money for Downs Syndrome North Yorkshire.

Stephen Thorpe and Jason Asquith set off on Sunday 10th May, and will travel through seven countries dressed up as Batman and Robin -  before arriving six days later.

They've been donated an old car, which they are doing up to make it roadworthy.  Four teams travelling in separate vehicles will also be doing the challenge.

Their route takes them through Europe - stopping in Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France and then on to Spain.

The challenge has to be complete in a donated Banger (used car). Stephen and Jason are travelling in a donated Vauxhall Astra.

It's all to raise money for Downs Syndrome North Yorkshire.

They completed a similar challenge last year.

Jason Asquith said:

"This year we're doing it for a local charity who really need the funds.  They have a support group and support Downs Syndrome patients throughout North Yorkshire - every single penny they raise goes back to the children."

Stephen Thorpe says the fancy dress is one of the biggest challenges:

"We have to make a Vauxhall Astra look like the original  Batmobile! It's easy when you're with the car but not when you're sat on a ferry dressed as Batman and Robin!  Or when you go into a service station - you've got to be in that fancy dress all the time."
