The government's decided to step up its action on coronavirus - by moving to the so-called 'delay' phase of its plan.

  • People will be urged to stay home for seven days if they have any signs of the virus.
  • These include persistent cough or a fever.
  • Over 100 more people have been diagnosed with the virus in the last day.

Scotland's first minister Nicola Sturgeon says the decision was taken during a Cobra meeting this afternoon.

The number of people who've died in the UK after being infected with coronavirus has risen to ten.

Two more patients - both with underlying health problems - have passed away.

While 134 more infections have been confirmed in the last 24 hours.

Schools are being told they should not close.

Director for Public Health at North Yorkshire County Council Dr Lincoln Sargeant said

"The vast majority of people who contract coronavirus may experience some unpleasant flu-like symptoms but recuperate well within weeks.

“It’s been confirmed by Public Health England that this instance relates to a person who tested positive after returning from Italy."
