It's been confirmed that there has been a case of Coronavirus Covid-19 in North Yorkshire.

  • It's not clear where at the moment.
  • The UK is moving into the delay phase regarding the virus.

The first confirmed case of Coronavirus Covid-19 has been found in North Yorkshire.

In the UK there has been a rise of over 100 cases in the last 24 hours.

Dr Simon Padfield, who works for Public Health England Yorkshire and Humber, said:

“Public Health England is contacting people who had close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19.

The case is a resident of North Yorkshire.

Close contacts will be given health advice about symptoms and emergency contact details to use if they become unwell in the 14 days after contact with the confirmed case.

This tried and tested method will ensure we are able to minimise any risk to them and the wider public.”

Dr Lincoln Sargeant, Director for Public Health at North Yorkshire County Council, said:

“The vast majority of people who contract coronavirus may experience some unpleasant flu-like symptoms but recuperate well within weeks and we wish the person involved in this case a speedy recovery.

It’s been confirmed by Public Health England (PHE) that this instance relates to a person who tested positive after returning from Italy."
