A patient at Harrogate District Hospital who tested positive for coronavirus has died.

In a statement, a hospital trust spokesperson confirmed the elderly patient had other significant underlying health conditions.

The news of the positive case of coronavirus was confirmed on Sunday.

A Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust spokesperson said:

“Sadly, we can confirm that an elderly patient who was being cared for at Harrogate District Hospital, and had tested positive for COVID-19, has died.

“The patient had other significant underlying health conditions.

“The patient’s family has been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”

Their death comes as two more patients in Yorkshire have died from COVID-19.

A man and a woman, both in their 70s, who had "significant" underlying health conditions were being treated at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

All tested positive for Covid-19.

The deaths are the first fatalities from the virus in Yorkshire.

Their families have been informed, the trusts said.
