As parents become teachers until further notice, we've pulled together a few resources which might help.

  • On Friday, schools closed their gates to all children except those of key workers.
  • Now that dining rooms across Harrogate, Craven and Wharfedale have become classrooms, what's on the curriculum?
  • We've pulled together a few free-to-use resources.

Parents in Harrogate, Craven and Wharfedale have become teachers over the past week, and dining rooms have become classrooms.

Many schools are providing resources for children, but if you're anxious about helping your children to learn, we've pulled together a few resources which might help.

Firstly, it'd be difficult to have missed this - it's gone a bit viral. Every day at 9am, Joe Wicks (aka the Body Coach) runs a PE lesson for the nation, live on his YouTube channel.

After PE, if you fancy a bit of maths, Countdown's Carol Vorderman has made her online maths lessons for four to eleven-year-olds free until schools reopen.

For older children and young people, there are a lot of websites with maths resources for teachers and students available online, run by teachers like Yorkshire-based Jonathan Hall.

For lots of other subjects, Classroom Secrets, a website for teachers' resources, has created a Facebook group for parents and teachers to share tips and advice.

Another teaching website is also providing resources for free to help out parents.

Story time

All the best home-school days end with a good bit of story time.

Luckily, Audible have made a supply of child-friendly audio books free for the time being!

If you want something a little different, children's author Frank Cottrell-Boyce is reading a new chapter of one of his books every day, on his Instagram page.

Keep letting us know how your home-schooling is going on social media, and let us know if you have any problems with it - and we can try and find the answers to your questions!
