Published by The Stray FM News Team at 1:31pm 27th March 2020.

The veteran presenter was no stranger to the airwaves of Harrogate, Craven and Wharfedale

Stray FM is saddened to learn of the passing of former presenter and journalist, James Wilson.

James's wife shared the news on Facebook, that he had passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning (26th March).

James was a member of the team that took part in the initial broadcasts of Stray FM before the full launch of the station in 1994.

He then went on to be a director of the Fresh AM service that won the broadcast license for Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales, which later became part of the bigger Stray FM.

More recently James has been heard broadcasting on the community radio station Dales Radio, who shared this post on their social media:

James was a popular and influential member of the community, who will be missed by many.

Stray FM’s Managing Director, Sarah Barry said:

I’m very saddened to hear that James has passed so suddenly and offer my sincere condolences to all James’s family and friends.

I had the privilege of working with James briefly in the very early days of Stray FM at our original York Place studios and I know how incredibly hard he worked, for several years as part of the original team, running RSL’s before successfully winning the licence for the radio station to broadcast to the Harrogate District.

James was radio through and through, he gave so much back to the communities he worked in and our industry has lost a great contributor, I know he will be sorely missed and I will be forever grateful for his work in getting Stray FM launched”
