A community Facebook group in Skipton continues to support elderly and vulnerable residents during the pandemic.

  • Community Facebook groups have been springing up to support people in self-isolation.
  • The groups offer help with food deliveries and collecting prescriptions.
  • Skipton Step Into Action was set up last month, and is one of several in the Stray FM area.

Skipton Step Into Action was set up last month, and is one of several across Harrogate, Craven and Wharfedale.

It already has 2,500 members.

The group help with things like getting prescriptions, food supplies or even walking the dog - tasks that are difficult for people who are unwell or self-isolating.

Alison Spencer, from Skipton Step Into Action, says they've had a great response so far:

"There are local businesses who are diversifying and offering food delivery.  Primary though, we're aiming at supporting the elderly and vulnerable groups who are in isolation, we're wanting to collect essential shopping and vital prescriptions."

"We have poetry and all sorts posted to the site!  Everybody is joining in and wanting to help each other."

You can visit the group here.
