Warning: "Parents need to remind their children of government advice"

Harrogate Police is urging parents to ensure their children are adhering to government advice during the coronavirus pandemic.

Last night, officers dealt with a number of groups of youngsters that were congregating in the town centre.

The youths were in Valley Garden, The Pinewoods and Harlow Carr.

Earlier on in the day (Wednesday, 9 April), police were asking people to leave the play areas, tennis courts and the skate park of Valley Gardens.

Officers were also patrolling other parks and recreation areas.

On Tuesday, police in Harrogate stepped up patrols following reports of people having picnics, residents drinking in the streets, groups congregating in the town centre and people meeting up to go for walks.

Harrogate’s Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Penny Taylor described it as disappointing and unacceptable that some people are showing such a blatant disregard for the Government’s guidance.

A reminder of the government advice can be found here.
